Chief Legal Officer at the Media Authority
The Media Authority works for an open and safe media landscape. We are now looking for a Chief Legal Officer for a role that is both overarching and independent. As the Chief Legal Officer, you will have a wide-ranging assignment in a central role with many collaborations both internally and externally. The position being advertised is a new position and is organizationally placed under the Director-General.
The Media Authority is located near Gullmarsplan in Hammarby sjöstad, Stockholm. Here, you will work side by side with dedicated colleagues with unique expertise and backgrounds in customized and pleasant premises. The deadline for applications is January 12, 2025, welcome with your application!
About the Position
The Media Authority is tasked with promoting freedom of expression, media and information literacy, and opportunities for diversity and accessibility in the media sector. The authority also aims to empower children and young people as conscious media users, leverage their experiences, and protect them from harmful media influence. As the Chief Legal Officer, you will have a role close to the operations where you will handle varied tasks and collaborations.
The main responsibilities include:
- Providing legal support to the authority's management and other departments
- Ensuring that the authority's operations are conducted legally, efficiently, and with high quality
- Ensuring quality in regulations, referrals, public access and confidentiality issues, and that the authority conducts its operations in accordance with applicable rules
- Working on legal tasks such as legal investigations, referrals, and preparation of court cases
- Investigating legal issues with both national and EU legal perspectives
- Developing and disseminating knowledge internally and externally
- Collaborating with other authorities and internationally
- Representing the Media Authority and being a "public face"
Who You Are
For the position of Chief Legal Officer, we are looking for someone who meets the requirements below:
- Highly experienced and skilled lawyer, preferably a court of appeal or administrative court assessor
- Several years of experience in qualified legal work in a court or authority
- Very good ability to perform legal analyses and quickly familiarize yourself with new subject areas and apply new knowledge
- Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing, both in Swedish and English
- Very good knowledge of public law
- Very good knowledge of state administration and its decision-making processes
- Socially oriented and updated on social issues
- Current and relevant experience in similar tasks
Merits for the position include:
- Good knowledge of the international regulatory framework for the authority's operations
- Good knowledge of EU law
- Experience in legislative work and regulatory activities
- Knowledge and experience of supervisory work
- Knowledge of media issues
- Knowledge of technology issues related to digital services
- Knowledge of accessibility issues
- Skills in languages other than English
Personal qualities:
As a person, you are committed and clear with a pedagogical ability. You possess good social skills, are unpretentious, and have an easy time collaborating. Your holistic view allows you to place individual issues in a larger context and prioritize what is most important to achieve results. You are proactive and solution-oriented with good analytical skills. Your work approach is structured, and you are thorough with a strong sense of responsibility while being goal- and results-oriented with the ability to perform at a high pace. The position requires high integrity and good judgment. Significant emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Other:
The position is full-time and a permanent position with a probationary period of 6 months.
The Chief Legal Officer reports directly to the Director-General and is part of the authority's local management group where the central Management Agreement is applied. Personnel responsibility is currently not included in the position.
